What is the Pilates Method Alliance?

The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and upholding the standards of Pilates instruction worldwide. It was originally established to create a standardized certification for Pilates instructors and to support the professional growth of the Pilates community. The PMA offers paid membership to students, teachers, and corporate members and does not require members to be NCPT certified, as it had in previous years.

What are the goals of the Pilates Method Alliance

According to PMA’s website as of February 2025, the goals of the organization include:

  1. Support and advocate for Pilates professionals

  2. Unify lineages and schools of Pilates

  3. Foster community, integrity, and respect within the Pilates industry

  4. Facilitate opportunity, credibility and professionalism

  5. Encourage professional development and lifelong learning

  6. Serve the evolving needs of the community

  7. Promote the benefits of Pilates to the public and allied professionals

  8. Serve as an information resource

Benefits of Joining the PMA Community

As a member of the PMA, you gain access to a wealth of resources, including workshops, conferences, and educational materials. These opportunities help keep your skills sharp and ensure that you're always learning the latest trends in Pilates training. Being a part of the PMA provides networking opportunities with other instructors who rally around the mission of the organization to elevate the Pilates profession, helping members build more effective and successful practices, and educate the public about the lifelong benefits of Pilates so that everyone in the world can move better.

Is Graduate Pilates a PMA member?

As of today, no. While we admire the PMA’s goals and mission, as a small business, we have decided to invest our limited resources in other areas in order to grow and provide the best experience we can. We will review our decision from time to time and this could change.
