What is ITTAP?

The International Teacher Training Accreditation (ITTAP) is a program offered by the PMA to provide an accreditation for Pilates train-the-trainer programs in Mat, Reformer, and Comprehensive. This accreditation recognizes training programs that are committed to upholding the educational principles of Pilates. The teacher training programs must meet eligibility standards outlined by the PMA and pay a fee to the PMA. This program has replaced a previous program by the name of PSAP, which will be phased out.

This accreditation is tied to a training program, not the graduate or student of the program.

Benefits of ITTAP Accreditation

One of the main advantages of ITTAP is that it enhances the credibility of the training institution. Students of ITTAP accredited programs can expect a ciriculum with a set of requirements deemed important by the PMA. This can help students weed out educators that are lacking training elements that could affect the quality of the education they receive.

While ITTAP Accreditation helps legitimatize a teacher training program, that does not mean that teacher training programs that are not ITTAP are not legitmate or reputable.
Here is their published list of 2025 ITTAP Approved Schools: https://www.pilatesmethodalliance.org/2025-all-listing. You may be surprised to see this list is quite short and that many of the most popular training programs are not ITTAP, either.
